The Colours of Exmoor

Firstly an apology for such a long break such the last blog, due to mainly to a busy time of year and not enough hours in the day! However I have now settled down with a bit of time to update you all. Despite being busy we have been managing quite a few walks in this glorious part of the world and a wonderful picnic at Valley of Rocks at sunset.

The colours on Exmoor never cease to amaze us at this time of year. Just minutes from our house the walks provide surprises around every corner. It is at this time of year that walking our spaniel Rosie is such a delight, especially amongst the patchwork of gorse and heather.

We are lucky enough to be able to walk onto Hollerday Hill from our garden behind the house. The garden is a challenging project being on a very steep hill. However this year some of our hard work with a great deal of help from our gardener is paying off!

With all the rain we have had the hydrangeas are at their best…..

On those rare occasions when we have time and the weather is just right we head off to the Valley of Rocks for the sunset, after all it is only 5 minutes away!

On this particular evening the weather was wonderful and we all enjoyed it. Some of you may have read in the press about the goats there, they were enjoying it too!

Summer has arrived

We have been really enjoying the sunshine and wonderful weather recently.

There are so many events in Lynton and Lynmouth at the moment, it is hard to catch our breath! Last weekend we were treated to the classic car weekend which saw an amazing number of old and new cars, millions of pounds worth of vehicles headed to the Lyn Valley for a great weekend of fun, music and people/car watching. Blue skies and sunshine made it a perfect weekend.

Local beer making is now well and truly established here with Fat Belly and the Madrigal brewery. Next weekend is the Fat Belly Festival hosted by the Cottage Inn where Gary brews his very own Fat Belly ales. Lots of merriment, music and beer drinking will be the order of the day.

Ian nd Rosie have been finding time to explore more of the coastal path, such a joy to walk out of the front door straight into beautiful scenery and see such a variety of wildlife.

Spring has brought wonderful dry weather for the last three weeks, providing an opportunity to really appreciate where we live, and make the most of the beautiful landscape. It was lovely to see so many visitors having the same idea.

The yellow gorse lights up the cliffs and wild flowers including orchids and bluebells decorate the valley floor, with plenty to entertain from cricket to goats!

Despite a chill in the air there were plenty of chances to sit in the sun and enjoy a pint of local brew at one of the pubs, or a cup of tea/coffee with a cream tea of course! Our guests are enjoying Ian’s well loved breakfast on the terrace again with that special view across the sea…….

Sunshine and Flowers!

So good to see the sun on the terrace and buds on the trees bursting into life.
